How to choose the right disc - Prodigy plastics

Let's continue our series on how to choose the right disc for your game. This time, we'll dive into the world of Prodigy Disc.

Their naming system is designed to help players figure out what disc they need for each shot quickly and easily. The letter in the model name represents the type of disc. For example, the 'M' in M4 stands for Midrange Disc. The number in the model name represents the stability of the flight path. Our models range from 1 to 9 - '1' being the most overstable and '9' being the most understable. Therefore, the "4" in M4 means that it falls in the middle of our stability rating, making it a slightly understable, depending on the model range in that series. If you need a reminder to what overstable and understable mean, check out this blog post

All Prodigy disc types are:

P - Putters

A - Approach discs

M - Midranges

F - Fairway drivers (speed 7-8)

H - Hybrid drivers (speed 9-11)

X - Distance drivers

D - Distance drivers

What about their plastics profiles? Let's see!

200 PLASTIC

200 Plastic is extremely versatile. It’s great for entry level players looking to get into the game, as well as advanced & professional players who love to fine tune their discs by working them in just the way they like. The feel of this plastic brings a new dimension to their line-up. Similar to the 300 Plastic, but with less grip - the 200 Plastic stands on its own.

300 PLASTIC

300 Plastic is a special blend of materials that is durable enough to take solid impact but has the ability to be broken in over time. 300 Plastic has been developed for optimum feel and grip for Putters and Midrange discs.

300 SOFT PLASTIC

Based on popular feedback for a soft, flexible, and grippy plastic, Prodigy developed our 300 Soft Plastic blend. It is a less firm version of our popular 300 Plastic, and maintains the same great qualities, such as being durable enough to withstand solid impact while also being able to break in over time. It is a great option for players who like a flexible feel to go with a grippy base plastic.

350 PLASTIC

350 Plastic is a unique blend of plastics designed to be used in several different models. The high quality discs produced in this plastic have amazing glide and each model has its own unique flight characteristics. 350 Plastic is a soft, grippy plastic that you will be able to break in over time. At a lower price point, this plastic feels and flies great. The 350 Plastic retains grip even in wet conditions.

350G PLASTIC

350G Plastic is a firmer blend of the 350 Plastic for those who like the grippy properties but in a stiffer plastic. The 350G Plastic is the product of 16 months of research and development. Its unique tacky feel and increased stiffness puts it ahead of all base-line resin available on the market today. It was developed in a collaborative effort by World Champions, Major Champions and National Tour Champions looking for discs that will break in perfectly over time. The 350G Plastic retains grip even in wet conditions.

400 PLASTIC

400 Plastic is a premium blend of material that is extremely durable. The unique blend of plastics feels as good as it looks and will be able to be broken in over time. This tour quality plastic gives the thrower impeccable grip, even when it is wet.

AIR PLASTIC

Prodigy Air Plastic is one of the most exciting plastics to be introduced to the disc golf scene. Our revolutionary 400 series base resin that has become a favorite of Canadian Open, Japan Open, US Open, European Open and World Champions has been modified to create a spectacular-flying, absolutely beautiful looking discs. Prodigy Air is available in a weight range from 148 grams to 162 grams. The grip, feel and performance are sure to become the new standard for all players looking for the highest quality disc in lighter weights.

400G PLASTIC

400G Plastic is the regular 400 Plastic with a shot of adrenaline. It is the base 400 plastic mixed with another resin that gives the plastic a slightly different feel than the base 400 Plastic. The additive also makes the disc more durable and requires more time to break it in.

500 PLASTIC

500 Plastic has been in development for quite some time, formulated and based on carefully considered player feedback. It has a stiffer, less gummy feel than 400 Plastic. This provides an extremely confident grip on the flight plate, balancing just the right amount of flex and firmness, with a very solid feeling rim that we believe disc golfers are going to love. 500 Plastic has a uniquely pearlescent finish, unlike anything else in the Prodigy Disc plastic line.

750 PLASTIC

750 Plastic is similar in grip and texture to our 400 series but with a firmer feel. This high-tech blend of premium resins will provide outstanding performance and predictability. This plastic is extremely durable.

750G PLASTIC

750G Plastic is our most advanced and premium plastic yet. This high-tech blend of premium resins will deliver unparalleled performance and predictability. 750G Plastic takes the incredible durability & firmness of 750 Plastic and steps it up a notch. For fans of our 400G Plastic, this plastic feels similar but has increased firmness and will require even more time to break in. Feel the difference.
