The putter is the most important disc in your bag. You use it for the last throw on every hole, and often the second-to-last one too. A good putter gives you confidence: you know how it feels in your hand and where it will fly.
Here's a short guide to choosing the right putter, along with our top 10 for 2026. Pure takes first place, followed by Estonia's own GRAM Tallinn and our best-selling putters of the past year.
How to choose a putter?
- Grip and feel. A putter should feel comfortable and secure in your hand. If possible, try holding a few different discs before buying, or start with a model that many players use.
- Shallow or deep profile. A shallow putter (like Pure) flies straight and works well for throwing too. A deeper putter (like Pixel or Judge) gives you a more secure grip when putting.
- Beaded or beadless? A bead is a small ridge underneath the rim of a disc. Many players prefer it because it gives their fingers a more consistent feel along the rim. Pure is beadless, while Peak from the same family has a bead.
- Soft or hard plastic. Softer plastic grips the chains better and feels more comfortable in winter. Harder plastic offers a more consistent flight and holds its straight flight path longer.
- Flight numbers. For putting, choose a straight-flying disc. For windy conditions and approach shots, pick a more stable putter with a fade of 2–3. Also check out what disc golf flight numbers mean.
Tip
Keep one putter just for putting and another of the same model for throwing. That way, your putting putter won't wear out as quickly, and your hand gets used to the same grip.

Frequently asked questions
How many putters should you have in your bag?
One is enough to start with. As you play more, get a second disc of the same model for throwing and keep one just for putting. Many players also add a more overstable approach disc, such as Harp or Zone.
Which putter is best for beginners?
Something straight and forgiving: Pure, GRAM Tallinn or a lighter Glitch. Also check out discs for beginners.
Soft or hard plastic?
Softer plastic grips the chains and feels more comfortable in cold weather. Harder plastic offers a more consistent flight. If you're unsure, start with medium-firm plastic.
